Distortion

I don’t know about anyone else…but I expect way too much out of life, love, happiness…the list goes on.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting the best for yourself and your life and future family. But sometimes…there’s a line that gets crossed. There’s a lot of things out there that shapes our idea of ideal:

  • Books (especially Nicholas Sparks books…Nick, we don’t need your fantasies)
  • Movies (…especially Nicholas Sparks movies. Nick wanted to reach everyone, including the people that don’t read)
  • Facebook statuses (let’s be real, we all get the occasional pang of jealousy when we see a friend is going to Europe for vacation)
  • Music
  • Hollywood in general
  • Religion (sad, but true. Be in denial if you wish)
  • The news
  • …the list goes on.

There are so many things out there pushing and pulling us in so many directions that ultimately, we have no idea what we want. It’s kinda frustrating, because even if we have a stable and decent life…will we ever really be satisfied? There will always be something that we’ll see on TV or on the internet that makes us think, “Oh, well I could do something with this; I wish I had it.”

It just kinda sucks that we are bombarded by “what could be” and in turn become unsatisfied, when in reality, we have everything that would’ve made us content in the first place. Who are we supposed to love? What are we supposed to be? What are we supposed to have? How are we supposed to know?

  1. I think this is really true in life, and if you have lots of money and everything you think you need in life, you usually will still not have good friends or enough love or… something
